Huge drug bust nets 20 arrests, more expected
By Jill PenleyJust as Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed a measure aimed at fighting the meth problem in Tennessee, more than 20 people were arrested last Monday as part of an ongoing investigation involving Johnson County residents who were observed traveling to Carter County for the purpose of purchasing large amounts of pseudoephedrine from various pharmacies in order to produce methamphetamine.
Also during the investigation, officers discovered a meth lab in operation on K&R Road in Butler, which netted several grams of finished meth product and numerous other items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. The individuals involved were arrested and booked into the Johnson County Jail and included Theodore Hoover, age 55, Corey Paul Brown, age 22, and Jody S. Danner, age 39.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Carter County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation and subsequent arrests. “The arrests stem from several months of investigative work,” said Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes, who praised the assistance of Sheriff Mike Reece and his department, as well as Assistant District Attorney General Melanie Sellers. Although most of the arrests were made in Johnson County, several of those arrested were brought to the Carter County Jail as the charges stemmed from the purchase of pseudoephedrine in Carter County pharmacies.
