Jason Stout charged with attempted murder of brother

On August 7, 2012 at approximately 1:45 am, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Fall Branch Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found one victim, Chris Stout, with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was air lifted to Wake Forrest Hospital in Winston Salem, NC.

According to Sheriff Mike Reece, the suspect, Jason Eric Stout, which is the victim’s brother, had fled the scene. Stout was later apprehended in Ashe County, NC. He is being held in the Ashe County Jail pending extradition. He has been charged with attempted irst degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Stout had previously been charged in 2004 for attempted first degree murder when Officer Clifton Worley was shot in an altercation with the suspect.

The sheriff’s department says they have no information pertaining to the reasons for the altercation between the brothers. This investigation is ongoing.
