Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center proudly announces that one of its residents, Mrs. Margaret Trivette, age 93, has
completed a concerted effort to read through the entire Bible, which consists of 66 books, in 1 1/2 years! Ms. Margaret was assisted in her efforts by Marilynn Otis, who volunteers through the Chaplain program and reads the Bible to many residents on a regular basis. Ms. Margaret is a long-time member of Zionville Baptist Church in Zionville NC and Ms. Otis is a member of First Christian Church of Mountain City TN.
Ms. Margaret became a born-again Christian and was baptized at age 14. She has been reading her Bible daily for as long as she can remember. Many may remember Ms. Margaret sitting behind the counter at her family’s fireworks store (Stateline Fireworks) on Highway 421 in Trade TN. for many, many years.
Ms. Margaret always kept an open Bible lying on the counter from which she would read during the day while working. She recalled that once a young woman came in who kept looking at the Bible and finally remarked that she had never had a Bible. Ms. Margaret gave the Bible to the young woman and promptly placed another one on the counter!
Ms. Margaret says she has always loved reading her Bible and credits it for bringing her closer to the Lord and for keeping her close to the Lord all her life. Now that her eyesight is not as good as it used to be, she really appreciates MCCRC’s Chaplain’s Office providing her with a volunteer
who has read to her almost every day for the past
year and a half. Ms. Margaret says having someone read
to her has helped her to
understand God’s Word much more deeply. She and Ms
Otis discuss the Scriptures
regularly and often go to
Pastor Steven Spencer, who serves as Chaplain, with questions.
Proverbs 31:28 says “Her children arise up, and call her blessed;” Proverbs 31:30 says “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Ms. Margaret is the mother of Betty Trivette DeBord, mother-in-law of Willie DeBord, and grandmother of Lindsey DeBord Yoggerst.
Anyone interested in reading the Bible to nursing home residents or volunteering in any capacity should call MCCRC at 423-727-7800 and speak with Pastor Steven Spencer.
