Biscuit Doodle opens in Johnson City

Biscuit Doodle, Johnson City's new breakfast spot, opened this week, offering a variety of breakfast and brunch items.It is located at 1709 W. State of Franklin Road, near East Tennessee State University's campus, in the building formerly occupied by Bojangles."We have owned and operated CURED Fine Meats since the pandemic, and with our premium meats, we saw a need for a 'made-from scratch' breakfast restaurant in our area," said owner Breelyn Bomba, who runs the cured meats shop with husband and chef Alex Bomba. "Biscuit Doodle offers premium, made-in-house breakfast meats, including maple smoked bacon and sage breakfast sausage. We also offer all homemade jams and butters."And the name for the restaurant? Bomba said that in itself is special."We have a playful goldendoodle named Moseley, but even more, we wanted a fun and playful breakfast place that made you smile and recognize it immediately," Bomba said. "At Biscuit Doodle, we are all about the experience. We hope customers come in and immediately feel welcomed and can smell our delicious food. We aim to have A+ customer service, prices and consistency with our products."The Bombas hit their mark, as customers on opening day had great things to say about their first experience at the restaurant."It's absolutely great. The biscuits, the gravy, the doughnut holes, the atmosphere — all of it," said patron Sharon Dayton. "I've known Breelyn and Alex Bomba for years. I used to work at Main Street Café with them in Jonesborough."Ashlee Collins agreed. She said the food was delicious."The biscuits are big; when they came on the plate, they were the entire plate," Collins said. "I got a sausage biscuit with cheese and the home fries, and that was really good. We will definitely be back."Lauren Phillips and her daughter Ivy said they were looking forward to trying new food."Getting a new restaurant here is great, breakfast is our favorite meal," Phillips said. "We just love biscuits."According to employee Lauren Gardner, the thing she is most excited about in helping open the new restaurant is having something like Biscuit Doodle on that side of town."I think we need more over here near campus," she said. "There is First Watch and Maple Street but nothing that landed in between," she noted. "And I've never worked fast casual (food), so it's a cool new experience to learn."Gardner said the number of patrons through the door opening day exceeded her expectations."We've stayed steady all day, but our drive-thru has been the busiest," Gardner said. "I think having a drive-thru is really convenient, especially for students on their way to class or people on their way to work."Bomba said she was happy with the turnout their first seven hours open for business."Our first day open, we were completely amazed at how the Johnson City community supported us," Bomba said. "We hope the support continues so we can continue to provide the best breakfast in town for many, many years."Biscuit Doodle is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
