Jonesborough Senior Center hosts Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Jonesborough Senior Center will celebrate its 10-year anniversary by rockin' around the Christmas tree.The 10-year anniversary celebration will occur in the Senior Center from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, followed by a Tree Lighting Ceremony. Hors d'oeuvres will be served during the event with a reception and tour of the facility, according to a press release from the Town of Jonesborough.The Senior Center moved in December 2015 from a 5,000-square-foot facility on Persimmon Ridge Road to the new 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building located at 307 E. Main Street, according to the release. Before the move, the release noted the Senior Center was struggling to find adequate space for activities for its 450 members.Today, the Jonesborough Senior Center has more than 2,400 members engaged in a wide range of programs. The center averages more than 200 member visits each day, and members participated in more than 35,000 activities last year in the new facility adjacent to Lincoln Park.Following the reception and tour, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in Lincoln Park at 6 p.m. Christmas in Lincoln Park is a festive community tradition hosted by the Senior Center and the Jonesborough Parks and Recreation Department, according to the release.Now in its second year, this special event will once again fill the park with holiday magic, featuring 40 lit Christmas trees sponsored by community businesses and organizations.The free community celebration will also include Christmas carols, pictures with Santa Claus, free s'mores by the fire and complimentary coffee and hot chocolate, according to the release.The Jonesborough Senior Center is located at 307 E.
