Benefits of The Fear Of The Lord

"The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy." [Psalms 147:11 KJV] What is the fear of the Lord? The fear of the Lord is a holy awe inspired reverence and admiration of the greatness of His divine person, proceeding from a worshipful esteem and deference of His perfections, His power, and His authority which produces an inclination to His service and an unwillingness to offend or displease Him. The fear of the Lord invites God to take His rightful place within the heart resulting in a right relationship with Him. A right relationship with God allows Him to freely extend the benefits that are reserved only for those that fear Him. The fear of the Lord is a fruitful garden full of the Lord's benefits. The fear of the Lord is more valuable than great treasure especially during times of trouble. The Lord will bless the great and the small when they fear Him. There is no want for those that fear the Lord, His provision abounds. Salvation, deliverance, restoration, and safety is near those that fear the Lord. The Lord walks with those that fear Him and to them He shares His secrets and makes plain His covenant. The Lord will establish His Word with those devoted to living by the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, it is also the fullness of wisdom that brings one to a place of peace and health. Both are gifts of God. The foundation of wisdom is to fear the Lord. "Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith." [Proverbs 15:16 KJV] "O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him." [Psalms 34:9 KJV] "Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land." He gives His angels watch over them. The Lord fulfills the desire of those that fear Him, He hears their cry and saves them from their distress. It shall go well with those that fear the Lord, long life, joy, and gladness of heart shall be their part and they shall find favor at the time of their death. "The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened." [Proverbs 10:27 KJV] "The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil." [Proverbs 19:23 KJV] "Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;" [Psalms 33:18 KJV] "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." The Lord has pity [compassion] on those that fear Him. The fear of the Lord is the motivation to depart from evil. "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil." [Proverbs 16:6 KJV] "For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him." [Psalms 103:11 KJV] "But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;" [Psalms 103:17 KJV] "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." [Psalms 103:13 KJV] Many more benefits of the fear of the Lord can be discovered by searching the Scriptures. However, it is not enough to simply know about the many benefits of the fear of the Lord. One must also be diligent in the application of Scripture to his personal life and to grow in the fear of the Lord. The benefits come to those that by deed, and in truth fear Him. To experience the benefits of the fear of the Lord we must make the fear of the Lord a central theme that weaves everything in our life together. We must always be mindful of the fear of the Lord and act accordingly and allow wisdom to direct our life and when these remain in place it will go well with us all the days of our life even when trouble comes the Lord will be our deliverance, our shield, and high tower.
