We ain't spring chickens

Rescue DOG is overjoyed when people of like minds come together to give "not so adoptable" dogs a chance at adoption. We believe a dog's age shouldn't interfere with placing him/her into a home when families have the willingness to open their hearts to a dog in need. A senior or special needs dog may not be at the top on every adopter's list but to us when we see a dog in need they are the first we gravitate towards as they are the most overlooked. Age or medical needs is not a fault of the dog, it is part of life we all face. We all grow older, grey hair comes along, eyesight fails us, and our joints make us walk different than we did in our twenties. Come on, you all know what I'm talking about. We ain't spring chickens anymore. The senior dogs feel the same way we do, but should they simply be discarded because they are old? No way. They are in their antique years, the retirement age of golden opportunity, and deserve the best life we can give them. That is our goal when we take in every senior dog, to make their final years or even days the best they have ever had. We have had the privilege of placing "Jumping Heart," a completely blind Jack Russell, with a former Johnson County native who now lives in Pennsylvania. A volunteer, Joellyn Smith, drove Jumping Heart to her new home two weeks ago and the bond was immediately evident. Jumping Heart was surrendered by owner who knew she needed a bit more than could be provided due to the medical needs. We commend them for making such a selfless decision. Sweet Granny was adopted this week to The Anderson family, four time adopters. Granny was on a euthanasia list at a nearby municipal shelter and we pulled her before she was put to sleep for lack of space. She will now live a queen's life the rest of her days due to the love from one family who opened their home to her. BooBear was also adopted this week by Ms Gail after she was surrendered due to her medical needs. Ms Gail is a pomeranian enthusiast and has rescued many over the years from puppy mills. With her home currently empty she had room for BooBear, who desperately needed her. We are thankful for those who see what we see in the less desirable dogs and give them a second chance at adoption. You are truly heroes and we salute you.
